Irate youths disrupt APC rally in Buhari’s Katsina

Funtua (Katsina State)- Sen. Abu Ibrahim (APC Katsina south) and Alhaji Amiru Tukur (APC Katsina), member representing Bakori/Danja Federal constituency narrowly escaped mob action at a political event organised by Katsina state chapter of All Progressives Congress (APC) on Saturday in Funtua. It took combined teams of security personnel to rescue notable politicians including the governors’ entourage Some vehicles in the entourage of the governor were smashed by irate youths while tear-gas was used to disperse the crowds by the security personnel. The event was part of APC rally where the ruling party was accepting those defectng from Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) and Peoples Democratic Movement (PDM) among others but it ended abruptly. NAN reports that the irate youths were chanting “”Bamaso Abu Ibrahim’’ and throwing stones and shoes at dignitaries and entertainers invited to perform at the event. Amiru Tukur sustained injury while Abu Ibrahim, along with some of his aides and supporters, who were trying to rescue the senator, were also assaulted. Speaking earlier at the event, Gov. Masari urged all party members to promote the party’s manifesto. The governor reiterated his administration’s commitment to give proactive leadership that would turn around things for the better in the state. He said that the government would ensure increased investments in education, health, water supply, agriculture among other areas. In his remark, the Katsina state chairman of APC, Alhaji Shitu Shitu, said thousands of people were trooping to the party based on its achievements, adding that similar rally was organised in Dutsi local government for Katsina North senatorial zone recently. He assured the new members of fair treatment in the party affairs. Speaking on behalf of those who defected former chairman of Malumfashi local government area, Alhaji Mansur Banki, said he led more than 5,000 persons to join APC from PDP because of good programmes of President Muhammadu Buhari and Gov. Wike moves to ban 5,000 unapproved schools in Rivers

The Rivers State government says it has concluded plans to ban all unapproved schools operating in the state with effect from September this year. State Commissioner for Education, Prof. Kaniye Ebeku, disclosed this when he led members of the Rivers state House of Assembly Committee on Education on an inspection of ongoing rehabilitation work at Government Girls Secondary School, Rumuokwuta in company of officials of the state Ministry of Education. Prof. Ebeku said about five thousand illegal private schools are operating in the state. He said that publications will be done in both National and local papers in the coming days with the full names of the affected schools.
